Version 4 August 2026 · Quizzery is the data controller. Questions about your data? Email hallo@quizzery.nl.
Which data we process
- When building: the quiz content you fill in yourself (title, rounds, questions and answers). An account or name is not needed.
- When ordering: your email address, so we can send you the host link and edit link.
- When paying: Mollie processes your payment details; we only receive the payment status and a payment reference, never your account number or card details.
- From teams: the team name and the quiz answers given. Teams don't have to create an account or provide an email address.
- After your quiz night: we send you a one-off email asking how it went. If you fill in the feedback form, we keep your score and comments with your order; your email address is removed from the feedback after 12 months. We only use a quote on the site if you have given permission for that yourself.
- For the daily puzzle email: we only keep your email address if you sign up for it yourself, and only after you confirm the signup via the confirmation link (double opt-in). Every email contains an unsubscribe link; unsubscribing deletes your address immediately. A signup you don't confirm is deleted automatically after 7 days.
- Technical: our hosting and database providers keep log files for a short time (including your IP address, among other things) to keep the service secure and reachable. We do not use any third-party analytics or tracking services.
- Anonymous visitor statistics: we measure visits on the public pages without cookies or storage on your device. We don't keep IP addresses: visitors are counted with a daily changing code, and the key behind that code is destroyed every day: after that the count can no longer be traced to a person, not even by us. On the pages of quiz makers and teams we measure nothing at all.
What we use your data for
Solely to deliver the service: storing your quiz and making it playable, handling the payment and sending transactional emails (such as your host link). We don't use your data for marketing — the only exception is the daily puzzle email you sign up for yourself — and never sell it on.
On what legal basis
- Performance of the contract: storing your quiz and making it playable, handling the payment and emailing you the host and edit link.
- Legal obligation: keeping order data for the tax administration.
- Legitimate interest: the technical log files for security and preventing misuse.
- Consent: the daily puzzle email — you give that consent yourself via the confirmation link and withdraw it just as easily via the unsubscribe link in every email.
We don't make decisions about you based on automated processing or profiling.
Who helps us with this (processors)
- Mollie (Amsterdam): payments.
- Supabase (EU region Frankfurt): storage of your quiz, sessions and order data.
- Resend (US): sending transactional emails.
- Netlify (US): hosting of the website.
We have a data processing agreement with all of these parties. Resend and Netlify are US companies; for that transfer outside the EU appropriate safeguards apply, such as the EU-US Data Privacy Framework or the European standard contractual clauses.
Cookies and local storage
Quizzery does not use any tracking or marketing cookies, so you won't see a cookie banner. We do use four functional mechanisms:
- sessionStorage: remembers which team you belong to while playing the quiz. This disappears as soon as you close the browser (tab).
- a play-along cookie: remembers per quiz whether you switched on "I'm playing along" in the builder (questions and answers hidden). It contains only that on/off choice, nothing else.
- a puzzle cookie: a random number that keeps your progress and streak in the daily puzzles, without an account. It cannot be linked to you as a person; if you delete it, your streak starts over. If you subscribe to the daily puzzle email, this number can be linked to your email address at your request (via the link in the email), so your progress follows you across devices. Unsubscribing removes that link.
- a login cookie: only for the administrator account of Quizzery itself; visitors and players never get it.
How long we keep data
We keep your quiz and the associated data for as long as the quiz is online (see the terms and conditions). We keep order data for 7 years due to the legal (tax) retention obligation. We delete team names and quiz answers together with the quiz.
Your rights
You have the right of access, rectification and erasure of your data, the right to restriction of processing, the right to have your data transferred (data portability) and the right to object to processing. Email hallo@quizzery.nl, and we'll respond within a month. Not satisfied with how we handle your data? You can lodge a complaint with the Dutch Data Protection Authority (Autoriteit Persoonsgegevens).
